Portfolio

Portfolio Parameters
On Monday, April 23rd, you will be turning in your final portfolios. They will consist of the following:

1.       A title for your work that is informative and catches an audience’s attention
2.       An abstract that can be turned in to a call for papers at a conference
3.       A Let’s Play that has relevant information on your game of choice
4.       A 20 minute presentation that can be presented at a conference, i.e. a 10 page paper or (as a new option) a 20 minute digital version of the presentation

Here are the requirements in more detail along with options for how to turn the portfolio in:
1.       A title for your work that is informative and catches an audience’s attention
People will often show up to your panel based on the title alone. Your title should be eye-catching but also inform an audience of what you are speaking on.
For examples, check out the titles of ICFA papers located here: http://iafa.highpoint.edu/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/2012-Program-20120316.pdf

2.       An abstract that can be turned in to a call for papers at a conference
When an organization is putting on a conference, they will often put out a call for papers (CFP) such as this one for the 2013 Eaton/SFRA Conference: http://iafa.highpoint.edu/2012/cfp-2013-eatonsfra-conference/
To be invited to present at a conference, you must first submit an abstract as requested in the CFP. For this section of your portfolio, you should either write:
·         a 300 word abstract for me, or
·         an abstract for a specific CFP (if you choose this option, please submit a link to the CFP that you are writing to)

3.       A Let’s Play that has relevant information on your game of choice
You have been playing your game of choice all semester; send me your notes on the game with an emphasis on the parts of the game that made their way into your paper.
Keep in mind I will not have time to watch 80 hour let’s plays nor read 200 pages of game summary. Focus on your analysis of the game rather than relaying the actions minute for minute.

4.       A 20 minute presentation that can be presented at a conference, i.e. a 10 page paper or (as a new option) a 20 minute digital version of the presentation
Because this is supposed to be a 20 minute presentation to be given at a conference and because several of you have expressed an interest in this, you may turn this in as a 10 page paper or as an actual 20 minute presentation.
If you choose to turn in the 20 minute presentation you have several options:
·         Use Prezi and add voice recordings
·         Use Power Point and add voice recordings
·         Use Windows Moviemaker,  iMovie, or other video software
·         Use Sound Recorder or (better yet) Audacity to record the presentation as audio only
Note: if you create such a file, please be aware that I run a Windows computer. Any files that you produce must be readable on my laptop and/or home PC. Please render your project in multiple file types and check with me to make sure that one of them works on my laptop.

How to Turn In the Portfolio
There will be an email sent out on Wednesday, April 18th. If you wish, you may respond to that email with all four components of the portfolio attached to your reply.
You may upload your presentation or bits of your Let’s Play to YouTube or other video hosting sites and link them in this email.
You may also turn in your portfolio physically to me in class on Monday, April 23rd.
All portfolios are due by class time on Monday, April 23rd. No exceptions will be made. Grading all of these will be time consuming and I will need most of finals week to do so.

Scheduling a Pick-Up Date
If you wish, you may schedule a time to pick-up your portfolio and discuss your final grade with me during finals week. Come see me after class to schedule such a time/place.
